30 seconds interview: Cattle & Cane

cattle and cane band

If you love folk troupe Cattle & Cane for their hearty harmonies and gentle guitar hooks, then their new single Fool For You won’t disappoint.

The track lands on 28 April, ahead of the release of their sophomore album, Mirrors – and deftly picks up where their critically acclaimed debut Home left off.

The new set was produced by Luuk Cox at ICP Studios in Brussels and Temple Studios in Malta, and recorded with the help of PRS Foundation’s Momentum Music Fund.

Ahead of their UK tour, which kicks off at the Buyers Club in Liverpool on 2 May, we caught up with vocalist Helen to unearth the foundations of their mesmerizing sound…

We first started making music because…
Me and Joe are the youngest in our family, so we needed something to get some attention!

We have been making music since…
Forever! We used to put on concerts for our Mam and Dad when we were little and then when we wanted to start a band properly, we didn’t have to look too far as our brothers Vin and Fran had always played bass and guitar.

Our music is…
Built around three-part sibling harmonies.

You’ll like our music if you listen to…
Bear’s Den // The Staves // Fleetwood Mac.

Our favourite venue is…
We supported The Head and The Heart at Shepherds Bush Empire in February and it was amazing. Hopefully we’ll be back there to headline in the future.

Music is important because…
It provides relief from the dreary reality of every day life.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Our mam. And John Lennon.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Graceland era Paul Simon.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Fool For You.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Trying to be creative in some other ways. We love food so maybe our own restaurant…

In 10 years’ time we want to be…
Able to look back and be proud of the songs we’ve put out there.
