YouTube to launch on-demand service
Billboard, which cited sources close to the matter, revealed that the online platform is on the brink of creating a Spotify-esque service but with video content.
The Google-owned business is expected to offer a free service and a premium tier which would be advert-free and allow listeners to store their video playlist and choices offline.
A premium offering is likely to be similar to the one available via YouTube’s parent company, Google Inc, via its All Access subscription music service.
In a statement to the news provider, YouTube said: ‘We’re always working on new and better ways for people to enjoy YouTube content across all screens, and on giving partners more opportunities to reach their fans. However, we have nothing to announce at this time.’
A potential date for the launch of the rumoured service was not reported in the article.
