Pub gigs

For a lot of acts starting out, local live music pubs and bars offer no finer place to grow a fanbase and learn the art of live performance. PRS for Music sponsors the Music Pub of the Year category in The Publican’s annual trade awards. M caught up with some of the shortlisted music publicans to find out more about their showcase nights.

In recent years, a number of annual events in the same vein as the International trade shows (below) that have sprung up on home soil and provide multiple showcase opportunities for aspiring acts.

Midem, Popkomm and South by South West (SXSW) have been mainstays of the International trade show scene for many years. Their model of attaching evening showcases to complement daytime seminars has grown exponentially over the past decade and that winning formula has seen others imitate the formula.
