Adele matches Beatles record

Buoyed by her performance at the BRIT Awards last week, Adele has two top-five albums and top-five singles in the charts at the same time, matching a record only held by The Beatles. Adele’s single Someone You Like beat Lady Gaga and Rihanna to the top of the singles chart yesterday, while Rolling In The Deep moved up from number five to four.

Music Makeover

The Royal Oak in Taunton opened its newly-refurbished live music facilities on 17 February thanks to winning a nationwide competition organised by PRS for Music. Last year the pub beat off stiff competition to win the Music Makeover competition run in partnership with the Musician’s Union and the British Beer and Pub Association. The pub received £5000 to spend improving its live music facilities as well as expert advice on staging music events.

Squeeze Musical Heritage plaque is back

Fans of Squeeze and local historians of south-east London will be pleased to know that the PRS for Music Squeeze Musical Heritage Award plaque has been returned to it's rightful place. A crack team of workmen turned up to the Greenwich Dance Agency, arriving in the PRS for Music white van to restore the plaque to the site of Squeeze's first gig.

Live At Leeds line-up

The organisers of the Live At Leeds festival have announced that Anna Calvi (pictured by Emma Nathan), Pulled Apart By Horses and The Duke Spirit are to play this year's festival. The acts join a line-up including Young Knives, The Whip, Slow Club and The Chapman Family and many more.

Almost Famous Showcase

PRS for Music and Club Fandango present ‘Almost Famous’ on Thursday 3rd March, a night showcasing the best new acts in the music industry.

Gary Moore

The rock and blues guitarist, Gary Moore has died aged 58. Moore had been on holiday in Spain.

Broadcast Awards winners

Congratulations to the winners at the Broadcast Awards that took place on Wednesday 2 February at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. PRS for Music Sponsored the Best Music Programme, which was won by Glastonbury 2010, BBC and Glastonbury Festivals for BBC Two

John Barry

John Barry OBE, the Oscar-winning composer, Ivor Novello award winner and Fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers has died. Barry passed away after suffering a heart attack at the age of 77.

PRS for Music Aftershow Club

or the seventh year Belfast Nashville will bring Belfast alive with the sound of 150 artists performing at 44 venues. Songwriters from all over the world will gather at the songwriting festival and PRS for Music is proud to sponsor the event. At the festival PRS for Music will host an after-show club showcasing local songwriters at the Madison Hotel.
