Apply to write and collaborate with Field Music

Field Music

Calling all musicians and writers: Brighter Sound presents a unique opportunity to write and record with Mercury Prize-nominated and critically acclaimed band, Field Music.

The band – brothers Peter and David Brewis – will welcome 10 emerging musicians into their studio in Sunderland for a five-day residency of writing and recording to create a distinct collaborative record.

Successful applicants will have the chance to bring their own unfinished songs and ideas into the sessions, pulling them apart to explore arrangement, engineering and production.

Formed in 2005, the Brewis brothers have released five albums as well as a collection of covers, B-sides, film scores and spin-off projects.

The critically acclaimed pair were dubbed ‘Prince’s favourite pop duo’ by MOJO after the late icon shared a link to their single The Noisy Days Are Over on his Twitter feed.

Speaking about the residency, David Brewis said: ‘At some point, quite early on, we realised that no one was going to show us how to make the records we wanted to make – slowly and awkwardly we had to figure it out ourselves.

‘I hope this project will be the kind of thing we needed back in 2001 – maybe a bit of inspiration, a few technical tips, a little kick up the arse and the fun of trying things out with a bunch of other musicians in a similar boat.’

The residency will take place in Sunderland between 13 to 17 November. Musicians and writers of all genres with an interest in record-making are invited to submit.
