As part of its 50th birthday celebrations, the choir has launched the competition and will perform the winning entry at their 50th year annual concert next year on 9 March at Reading Concert Hall.

Judges will include composers Kerry Andrew (pictured) – who recently picked up her fourth British Composer Award – and Andrew McKenna, conductor and vocal coach Anthony Jenner, plus representatives from the choir.

In keeping with the 50th anniversary celebrations, the theme for the inaugural competition is ‘Gold’.

The piece should be for a 50-strong mixed voice choir and should be able to be performed a cappella.

The deadline for entries is 1 July 2018 and the winner will be chosen by 1 December 2018.
