Interview: Inner City

‘It’s grown, its migrated, it’s viral… it’s gone from the underground to pop, and back to the underground. There’s no limit to music,’ comments Inner City founding member Kevin Saunderson on the evolution of electronic music.

And he should know, as the legendary Detroit house and techno group are celebrating over three decades in the business, with their current tour bringing them to Glastonbury Festival where they played Silver Hayes and the PRS for Music tent.

Kevin and vocalist Paris Grey made their name in the eighties, with crossover dancefloor hits like Big Fun and Good Life, bringing underground electronic music to the masses.

In more recent years the band line up shifted and in 2017 Kevin welcomed his son Dantiez into the fold.

Vocal duties have been taken up by Steffanie Christi’an on the group’s latest single Need Your Love, and the singer joined them at Glastonbury.

Watch the video below to see what Inner City have to say about the enduring appeal of their old hits, the changing dynamic of the band and how developments in technology have affected their music…
