So it’s a solid testament to London’s Luke Solomon skills as both a producer and DJ that he’s been at the top of the electronic music game for such a lengthy period.
He’s always balked at doing anything other than his way and it’s an independent attitude which has continually paid off.
Alongside his Chicago compadre Derrick Carter, their Classic Music Company has done much to tap into some of the most talented electronic music makers from across the world. In a realm where personality can sometimes be lacking the likes of DJ Sneak, Isolee, Tiefschwarz, DC and Luke himself have done much to leave an often idiosyncratic and memorable mark all over the face of ‘clubland’. Without him or his music, the landscape of house music in the capital and beyond just wouldn’t have been as exciting.
Timelines is his latest artist album and sees him refining his own songwriting and production work far beyond the standard dancefloor template. The likes of The Beloved’s Jon Marsh, Natalie Broomes, Terry Grant and Tiger Tiger all contribute to what is probably his most accomplished work yet.
Elsewhere Luke continues to push the envelope with inspiring, deep digging DJ sets and ongoing work with Classic. He’s helping tap into a rich seam of new talent with the likes of Pipes, the Crooked Man, Tooth Faeries and Hercules and Love Affair vocalist Shaun J. Wright all set to usher in a new phase for his and Derrick’s label.
