Production duo Psychemagik definitely live up to their cosmic namesake, bringing their fair share of witchcraft to vigorous DJ sets and celestial remixes.
Over the last few years Danny McLewin and Tom Coveney have built up a head of steam through two thrilling re-edits of seminal band Fleetwood Mac. Their reimaginings of both Everywhere and Dreams topped the global Hype Machine chart and helped define the party sound of 2012.
Having become the go-to guys for on-the-money remixes, they’ve also given Haim, Skinny Lister, Kraak & Smaak, Crystal Fighters and The Cuban Brothers the Psychemagik treatment and often have a queue of artists waiting in the wings for their turn.
As a result, they seem to spend most of their studio time on others’ tracks than original material, but all that’s about to change.
Following the success of their self-released EP Lunar Escape late last year, Tom and Danny are starting to work on new Pyschemagik material and are busy putting together a live set.
If that’s not enough, they are both in-demand DJs, playing at parties from Sydney to San Francisco. Their addiction to vinyl has helped them unearth rare treats and forgotten classics, and they are now known as top collectors with customers including Soulwax, Chemical Brothers, Lovefingers, Q-Tip and Tom Middleton.
We caught up with the pair in between their numerous DJ sets at Glastonbury festival to find out what they’ve got up their sleeve for the rest of 2013 and uncover their secret love of medieval folk…
