Interview: Royal Blood

RoyalbloodMPGwebBrighton duo Royal Blood are one of the UK’s most exciting success stories of the last 18 months.

The pairMike Kerr and Ben Thatcher – have only been playing together for two years but sound like a slick, well-oiled rock machine. For a duo armed only with drums and bass they also make a huge noise, but one which has gone down a storm with guitar fans over 2014.

From opening for Arctic Monkeys at their Finsbury Park gigs to triumphant slots at Reading and Leeds, the pair won armies of admirers over last year, culminating in their self-titled debut LP storming to the top of the charts. Their record hit number one after shifting 66,000 copies in only seven days, making it the quickest selling rock album in the UK charts since Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds unleashed their debut LP back in 2011. Further honours could lie await as they’ve received three nominations at the BRIT Awards for best British group, British breakthrough act and British album of the year.
