Interview: Simple Minds

Simple Minds are one of Scotland’s most successful rock bands, having notched up six UK number one albums and topped the Billboard chart over the other side of the pond.

It’s no surprise then that the group, who formed in the late seventies, were among the winners at the Ivor Novello Awards, picking up the gong for Outstanding Song Collection at the ceremony.

Their career has taken in all sorts of styles, with the band growing from angular post punk heroes to stadium rockers via a clutch of great records – Life in a Day, New Gold Dream, Sons and Fascination to their more recent work, 2014’s Big Music.

The band were at the recent Ivors to collect their award and we were able to quiz them about how they developed their songwriting chops, their politics and working with fellow Scots CHVRCHES…
