30 seconds interview: Snowpoet

snowpoetLondon-based alt-folk pair Snowpoet are Laura Kinsella and Chris Hyson, a pair who take inspiration from a beautifully kaleidoscopic gene pool, unravelling from Joni Mitchell to Philip Larkin.

Alongside band members Matthew Robinson, Nicholas Costley-White, Josh Arcoleo and Dave Hamblett, the duo have been entrancing music lovers, who’ve fallen under the spell of their exquisite web of melody, rhythm and harmony.

Following the success of recent singles Mermaid and Waves, as well as 2014’s EP Butterfly, the band are now gearing up to release their debut album on Friday 15 January, a beautiful nine song collection. Mixed by Alex Killpartrick and mastered by Grammy-nominated MPG Award-winner, Mandy Parnell, we’re expecting this pair’s music to take over 2016. In the most gentle way possible of course…

We first started writing music because…
We had similar interests and ideas.

We have been making music since…
2013.

Our music is…
Reflective/curious.

You’ll like our music if you listen to…
Björk, Radiohead, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens, James Blake.

Our favourite venue is…
Union Chapel (London).

Music is important because…
It exists in everyone and everything.

Our biggest inspiration is…
So many! but personally probably Björk.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Antony Hegarty, Thom Yorke, Justin Vernon.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Mermaid.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Listening to music.

In 10 years’ time we want to be…
Still making records and playing live!
