What? Welsh garage rock.
From where? Cardiff.
What’s the story? James Goulbourn (drums), Mike Griffiths (Guitar and Vocals), Louis Heaps (Bass) and Joe Williams (Guitar and Vocals) formed Himalayas in 2015 in Cardiff.
The band quickly made a splash in the South Wales music scene before breaking out beyond their roots.
Their four-track debut EP Ecstasy appeared in 2016 and featured the punchy, hook-laden riff-fest Cheap Thrills.
Himalayas subsequently played both Reading and Leeds, Festival no. 6, SXSW, The Great Escape, Live at Chelsea, Isle of Wight and Liverpool Calling while also securing support slots for bands like Kaiser Chiefs, Gang of Youths and Marmozets.
A string of singles and EPs followed over the next couple of years as the band earned the support of DJs like Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Radio X’s John Kennedy.
Following the release of their single If I Tell You in 2018 the four-piece are set to hit the road this year, spreading their melodic indie-rock to every corner of the British Isles and beyond.
Sounds like? Edgy indie-rock that’s sure to please fans of Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys.
Predicted to? Riff their way to the top.
Must hear? Their fiery single Thank God I’m Not You.
