corella rap

Who? Rap outsider Corella.

What? Melody-driven bars.

From where? Croydon.

What’s the story? Although Corella has just dropped her debut single Trappin’, she’s already turning up the heat in UK rap.

Her half-singing, half-spoken style slinks along at pace and sets the bar high for a newcomer who’s seemingly arrived from nowhere.

Underneath, sparse sonics tease with their mash-up of spiralling drill, trap and bashment stylings, hinting at a talent well-schooled in the sharper edges of Britain’s inner city sounds.

Right now, we know very little about Corella except that she grew up on a diet of everything from Bjork to Beastie Boys to Nelly Furtado – a diverse yet high-achieving bunch who go some way to explaining her own slick sound.

Corella is expected to dish up another blistering South London soundtrack soon, and with studio time alongside Nastylgia (Nadia Rose, Not3s) and N2theA (J Hus, Yxng Bane) booked in, we’re guessing she’s in safe hands…

Sounds like? Your new favourite rapper.

Predicted to? Clean up this year.

Must hear? Addictive debut Trappin’
