Who? Jain is Jeanne Galice.

What? Jubilant, globe-trotting pop.

From where? Paris.

What’s the story? Jain’s debut album Zanaka may have been slept on here in the UK this year, but it’s been making a serious dent in pop charts across Europe.

Her colourful videos and live performances take in dancing doppelgangers, masked drummers and blaring brass, while her music riffs on the looping hooks of seventies’ Africa.

Although Jain’s a relative newcomer in chart terms, her sun-soaked, rhythm-driven sound had been brewing for years.

Since learning the drums aged seven, she’s been travelling the world with her parents, collecting influences from a myriad of musical genres – Arabic percussion, African rhythms, electro, reggae, soul and hip-hop among them.

Now with some cracking world-pop anthems under her belt, including Come and Makeba, and gold discs rolling in from Europe, it seems her light’s about to shine in the UK too…

Sounds like? Christine and the Queens jamming with Manu Chao, Youssou N’Dour and Miriam Makeba.

Must hear? Makeba
