Sink Ya Teeth band

Who? Sink Ya Teeth are Maria Uzor and Gemma Cullingford.

What? Two bedroom producers and music makers channelling the power of ESG and Grace Jones into their low slung indie electro jams…

From where? Norwich.

What’s the story? Maria Uzor and Gemma Cullingford are the duo at the helm of Sink Ya Teeth, a pair of veterans in Norwich’s simmering music scene.

Bonding over a shared passion for the likes of ESG, Nina Simone, Grace Jones and Howlin’ Wolf, the pair make minimal-maximal post punk pop from their bedrooms.

If You See Me is their debut, an ace piece of spatial, synthetic dance music whose rubbery bassline and detached vocal is hard to resist. Released via 1965 Records, the indie imprint presided over by musical impresario James Endeacott, it’s a real indication of the esteem in which their talents are held.

Commenting on the release Maria said: ‘I’m interested in the human experience. Particularly through a lens of desire and regret.’ On evidence of their debut, that latter lens has never sounded more danceable.

All Londoners can catch Sink Ya Teeth live at the Social in London on 24 May, then at a hometown show at Norwich on 31 May.

Sounds like? DJ and music writer Bill Brewster describes them as ‘The Raincoats produced by Mr Fingers’ which is bang on the money…

Must hear? Debut single proper If You See Me is the best invitation into their world. Listen below…
