Ghetts (pictured), Arctic Monkeys, Idles and Jorja Smith are among the composers, artists and songwriters shortlisted for the 2019 Ivor Novello Awards.
The Monkeys’ Alex Turner has been nominated in the Best Song Musically and Lyrically category for Four Out of Five, the lead single from the band’s sixth studio album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. They are up against Ben Howard and Hozier, with Nica Libres at Dusk and Nina Cried Power respectively.
Ghetts, Jorja Smith and The 1975 have all received a nod in the Best Contemporary Song Category. Ghetts, alongside Kojey Radical, Daniel Miles, JoJo Mukeza and Jaime Naldo Menezes, are shortlisted for the track Black Rose.
Smith is in the running with her debut single, Blue Lights, which she penned with Guy Bonnet, Dizzee Rascal and Roland Romanelli. The 1975’s Love It If We Made It is also shortlisted.
In the Best Album category, electronic duo Let’s Eat Grandma have been nominated, alongside punk provocateurs Idles and Young Fathers.
Elsewhere, the PRS for Music Most Performed Work category will be contested by Jax Jones and Ina Wroldsen, George Ezra and Rudimental, for their tracks Breathe, Shotgun and These Days respectively.
For the full list of nominees, see below.
Works eligible for this year’s awards were commercially released in the UK in 2018 and have a British or Irish songwriting or composing contribution of at least a third. The nominations represent the work of 48 individual songwriters and composers, 70 percent of whom are nominated for the first time.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 23 May, hosted by Paul Gambaccini and The Ivors Academy.
The Academy will also present the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement, the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection, PRS for Music Outstanding Contribution to British Music, PRS for Music Special International Award, the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year, The Ivors Jazz Award and The Ivors Inspiration Award.
The Ivors are presented by The Ivors Academy in association with PRS for Music.
