Organised by PRS for Music Foundation and Arts Council England, the initiative will enable five musicians to spend six weeks in China collaborating with local musicians, writing new material and exploring new opportunities.
Sam Genders and Sid Peacock will join the other three artists in making the journey.
The five cities involved are Changsa (Central China), Chongqing (South West China), Hanghzou (East China), Hong Kong and Wuhan (Central China).
Anna Meredith said: ‘I’m thrilled to have been selected for the Musicians in Residence scheme in China.
‘I’m looking forward to working with local musicians and artists to create a bespoke audio tour exploring unconventional corners of this beautiful city – it’s an idea I’ve been wanting to explore for ages and I couldn’t be more excited to be doing it in this amazing part of the world.’
The Musicians in Residence – China programme was launched in September 2011, with Gareth Bonello, Imogen Heap, Jamie Woon and Matthew Bourne relocating to the cities of Chengdu, Hangzhou, Xi’an and Xiamen in 2012.
Anna has worked with the likes of the Stranglers and Laura Marling and plans to create a location-based audio tour guide and album. Arun is a classically trained clarinettist and composer and is hoping to perform a new live-score to an animated feature film.
