Attitude is Everything joins with IVW

Attitude is everything

Attitude is Everything is teaming up with Independent Venue Week to showcase how grassroots live music can be made more accessible to for deaf and disabled audiences.

The charity is working with The Exchange, Bristol, and gig-going local Big Jeff Johns to promote access information at the venue tomorrow (31 January).

This coincides with a PRS for Music panel taking place there, which features IVW ambassador and Portishead band member Adrian Utley, Grade Management’s Sarah Mhamdi and the Musicians’ Union’s Andy Warnock.

Representatives from the charity will be on-hand during the event offering easy-to-follow ‘hacks’ to make gigs and shows more inclusive, helping artists and promoters maximise their audiences.

The advice is based on the charity’s DIY Access Guide, published last November.

In the evening, Attitude is Everything will co-host a gig curated by Johns and featuring West Country bands Jesuits, Iceman Furniss Quartet and Emily Isherwood.

The charity’s chief executive Suzanne Bull MBE said: ‘Historically, much of Attitude is Everything’s work has focussed on ‘big ticket’ events such as festivals and large-scale shows – however, it is equally important that Deaf and disabled people can access grassroots venues.

‘It is possible to do this in affordable, innovative and unobtrusive ways, and we are massively grateful to Exchange Bristol, to Big Jeff and to Independent Venue Week for enabling us to demonstrate these tips from our DIY guide.’

Sybil Bell, founder of Independent Venue Week, added: ‘Attitude is Everything have achieved great things in helping open up live music to Deaf and disabled people.

‘Independent Venue Week is really chuffed to have them onboard as one of our charity partners, and it is fantastic to see their DIY Access Guide being put into practice by the Exchange. For some music fans, even the smallest and most inexpensive changes can make a world of difference.’
