BBC Radio 1 is holding a 10-hour celebration of independent record labels later today (4 July).
From 6pm this evening to 4am tomorrow morning (5 July), every song played on the station will be by artists signed to indies including Wolf Alice, Foals, Arctic Monkeys and Adele (first three albums).
There will be also be interviews with the people who work at the labels and the artists signed to them.
The station’s head of music, Chris Price, said in a press release: ‘The UK’s independent label community is one of the most vibrant in the world. We want to celebrate the part it plays in making Britain one of the most creative and respected music hubs on the planet.’
The programming strand includes an hour-long show from Huw Stephens focused on the world’s most influential independent labels.
The DJ explained independent labels are ‘a vital part’ of what gets played on BBC Radio 1.
‘Their success stories are huge, and we’re super excited to highlight our constant support of the great work the independent labels do,’ he said.
