Digital Catapult and BPI announce immersive content showcase

The Surroundscapes showcase will take place in July and aims to amplify the full potential of audio in immersive content like virtual and augmented reality technology.

Digital Catapult has partnered with the BPI and its Innovation Hub to present six companies who are developing tools and solutions to combine sound in VR, AR and MR experiences.

After a competitive selection process, Digital Catapult and BPI selected the following companies for their innovative work in immersive sound: 1.618 Digital, Darkfield, MagicBeans, PlayLines, Volta and ZoneMe.

The event will bring together global industry leaders, hardware providers, sound-led content creators, investors and commissioners and producers.

An expert panel of speakers from across the industry will explore how real-life examples of pioneering work in music and broadcast can inform how sound will transform immersive experiences.

Speakers will include: Matt Neutra, Bose AR; Mirek Stiles, Abbey Road Studios; Jack Reynolds, BBC R&D and Andreas Ehret, Dolby.

Research by Digital Catapult reveals that there are over 20 companies developing tools for sound-led solutions and creating sound-led immersive experiences.

According to Coherent Market Insights, the 3D audio market is set to grow by 16.5 percent between 2018 and 2026.
