Online music platform Unsigned Band Review has launched a new initiative for emerging acts, offering industry support and the chance to work with top songwriter and producer Sacha Skarbek. The scheme is open to artists and bands that are either without a major record deal or are signed to a small indie label.
The Emerging Icons Academy will provide advice and tasks to help artists increase their fan base, utilise social media and get top tips to advance their music career. At the end of the six month programme, one artist or band will be selected to record an EP with Skarbeck.
The initiative has been organised by UBR with input from Universal A&R Annie Christensen, Soda Rock Entertainment, PR consultant Richard Dawes and Jules Parker from PRS for Music.
Kat Jackman created the project, and said: ‘It is a tough world out there for artists because they need to be savvy in many areas other than just the music.
‘The Emerging Icons Academy is set to equip them with tools and tips that will no doubt help them within their career whether or not they get to work with Sacha. I have chosen contributors from the industry who are highly experienced in working with established acts across different areas including A&R, songwriting, management, social media and PR.’
Focussing purely on unsigned talent, the Emerging Icons Academy also stipulate that each entrant must write their own songs. For more information visit unsignedbandreview.com and become a follower of the Emerging Icons Facebook group for updates.
