Chicago was the place with the pair on their own separate pilgrimage to Memphis, the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll.
The journey saw them bond over a shared love of classic songwriting and harmonies from the likes of The Band and Simon and Garfunkel. The duo got on so well, they decided to form Winter Mountain there and then.
Following Memphis, they went on to travel and perform music together while taking in a tour of bars and venues across the deep south of America.
On their return, Winter Mountain continued to collaborate, winning an unsigned music competition in Northern Ireland in the process. Their performance was good enough to secure them a deal with Charcoal Records and begin recording their debut set of songs for the label.
The self-titled album was two years in the making but saw the band link up with producer Sam Lakeman and veteran engineer Matt Lawrence (Adele, Mumford and Sons, Van Morrison).
The eleven song set is a gorgeous statement of intent which has earnt them comparisons to the likes of Simon and Garfunkel and Fleet Foxes and pick up plays on BBC Radio 2 as well as a publishing deal with Faber Music. If sun-drenched harmonies and beautiful melodies are your thing, then Winter Mountain are definitely for you…
