Help Musicians has opened applications for its 2020 Postgraduate Awards, offering financial aid of up to £5,000 for music performance students who wish to further their study at a UK conservatoire.
Students can apply directly to the charity for funding towards their course fees and associated living costs.
Help Musicians is inviting applications from students from every background who demonstrate strong musical potential, the ambition and ability to sustain a career within the industry and those who are in considerable financial need.
Extra consideration will be given to applications from students from under-represented backgrounds, including those from BAME backgrounds, deaf and disabled individuals and those from other socio-economic groups, as well as students studying outside of London.
Claire Gevaux, director of programme, Help Musicians UK, commented: ‘Last year we changed the way we receive Postgraduate Awards applications, from a nomination-based system to an open application process, inviting students to apply directly to us. We’re delighted to report that this had a positive impact in raising awareness of our charity within the student population and also increased the diversity of applications. We’re continuing with this approach in 2020, which we hope will encourage an even more diverse range of applicants to take up this vital opportunity to support their future careers. For some, a postgraduate year of study is a vital part of preparing for a sustainable career in music and we always look forward to hearing some of the best talent across the UK at our auditions.’
Applications are now open on the Help Musicians website.
The deadline for applications is 3 February 2020.
