The duo’s hit Can’t Hold Us was the most streamed song on the subscription service while their Thrift Shop was the third most popular.
This latter song was also the most streamed song of the last five years, with more than 160m streams to date. Both singles are taken from their album, The Heist. Daft Punk, Avicii and The Lumineers were all in the top ten of streamed tracks in 2013.
In the UK, Bastille and Arctic Monkeys were the top two most streamed artists of the year.
Zach Quillen, manager of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, said: ‘Spotify has proven to be a powerful platform for both sharing and experiencing music. We value it’s ability to reach new, curious listeners by encouraging the sort of word-of-mouth marketing that drove The Heist from day one.’
Further findings showed that Daft Punk had the biggest first day in the history of Spotify for the streaming of a single song with their number one hit, Get Lucky.
