Michael Berkeley to lead composition masterclasses

Berkeley Ensemble logoBritish composer Michael Berkeley will head up a series of public masterclasses as part of the New Cobbett Prize competition.

The contest, organised by the Berkeley Ensemble, is inspired by philanthropist Walter Willson Cobbett. He commissioned early works by British composers including Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Entries for the competition are now closed although public masterclasses with Michael will see as many as 16 entrants workshopping their entries with the renowned composer.

The semi-final sessions will take place at the Forge in Camden on either Sunday 26 October or Sunday 9 November 2014.

The winning and runner up compositions will be recorded by the Berkeley ensemble for Resonus Classics with the overall winner also receiving a £500 commission for the Berkeley Ensemble’s 2016-17 season.
