The leading international music industry event will open in 2020 with a keynote discussion devoted to artist and label services, led by Fred Davis, partner at The Raine Group.
Downtown’s chief executive Justin Kalifowitz and Soundcloud’s chief executive Kerry Trainor will join him at the conference which takes place from 2 to 5 June at Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
The keynote discussion on 2 June will underscore the role and development of the future of artist and label services, reflecting a strong focus on the topic at Midem 2020.
The speakers will explore this essential element of the music ecosystem, helping artists release, promote and monetise their music.
The conversation is expected to cover the rise of ‘direct artist’ services companies, alongside other commercial models, which allow unsigned artists more choice and flexibility than before.
In addition to the keynote, Midem are launching an Artist & Label Services Forum to bring together production, funding, marketing, sales and promotion and rights management to help boost artist careers and provide solutions for labels.
The Midem Artist & Label Services Forum includes:
A marketplace where artist services / label services and digital distributors showcase their solutions
A demo stage to promote their services
A workshop space dedicated to artists, managers & indie labels, hosted by service providers
A job board for service providers available to all Midem delegates
Networking events with happy hour cocktails to bring together all the stakeholders
And more to be announced
Fred Davis says: ‘With DIY and independent artists representing the fastest growing segment of the industry in terms of revenues, growing 35/40 percent year-on-year, the music industry is facing a new turning point. There is an exciting opportunity to further empower these artists and rightsholders and allow the entire industry to generate significantly more revenues. In this context, metadata is more than ever a critical issue we need to unify around. Midem is uniquely positioned to host such an important conversation as it welcomes all its stakeholders.’
Alexandre Deniot, director, Midem, comments: ‘We’re delighted to host this amazing line-up of keynote speakers, which resonates with our artist-centric strategy and highlights the main evolutions currently reshaping our industry. By creating the first ever Artist & Label Services Forum at Midem, we aim to further serve the global music community and provide concrete solutions for new artists, entrepreneurs and the industry´s needs. The Forum will unite existing services for artists & labels across production, marketing, sales & promotion, rights management and more. Combined these elements can help boost artists’ careers and provide solutions for labels to support their artists around the world.’
