Music Venue Trust (MVT) and Red Stripe have teamed up on a new initiative to support grassroots venues and give young people opportunities to join the sector.
The new bursary scheme, dubbed Earn Your Stripes, is aimed at 18 to 25-year-olds who are looking to gain work experience in the music industry..
The campaign will enable 50 music industry hopefuls to be placed in internship positions in local music venues throughout the UK to work on anything from lighting and sound to promotion and marketing.
Red Stripe are offering £200 for each applicant with the intention of helping younger people take their first step into working in music through the support of a short-term work placement.
Mark Davyd, chief executive of MVT, said: ‘Creating the next generation of sound, lighting, booking and promotion staff is key to building grassroots music venues’ sustainability and to establishing a much needed succession plan – we want to make sure that the next generation of people running these venues have all the skills they need to create great shows for artists and audiences. We are delighted to have Red Stripe on board to deliver the much needed Earn Your Stripes programme to music venues.’
If successfully chosen, venues can use the money allocated to create a new internship position in their establishment or to pay applicants directly for their time and services.
