PRS for Music SXSW log

PRS for Music’s very own Jules Parker, Gemma Kenyon and Chris Carey are at the 25th SXSW in Austin, Texas, contributing to industry panels and assisting with the British Music Abroad showcase events.

Here is a glimpse of what they have been up to…

17 March
Gemma Kenyon: “Yesterday, the first proper day, was great. The (US collections society) ASCAP guys have really looked after us. They have been introducing us to people and feeding us. I’m looking forward to seeing the (US collections society) SESAC guys later today.

I have met lots of UK bands out here such as Tigers That Talked, Brother and Pulled Apart By Horses (who opened the British Music Abroad launch party). I also met a USA publisher who introduced me to the amazing Raphael Saadiq, who was playing before Duran Duran at Stubbs.

Today I have made an all-American breakfast extremely British by adding English muffins and Earl Grey tea and taking away the cheese!”

Chris Carey: “My personal highlight was Kill It Kid at the Bedford showcase, where Charlotte Church appeared as a surprise special guest! The entrepreneurship panel was interesting, and remarkably upbeat.”

Jules Parker: “It’s past midnight in Austin now and we’re watching Duran Duran play at Stubbs. A good helping of classic hits.”

16 March
Jules Parker: “It’s slightly overcast but warm and the sun is trying to come out. On Tuesday night we went to a welcome dinner hosted by (US collections society) ASCAP. Arrived mid evening, straight after flight, and met a cross-section of US, UK and international delegates. I caught Pulled Apart By Horses at the interactive close party at the British Music Embassy. Now Imaginary Cities are playing at the Canadian Blast barbeque – what a great band!”

Jules Parker will be moderating the following panel:
