Voting is now open for the Association of Independent Musicians (AIM) Awards’ Best Live Act of 2018.

Sponsored by Songkick, the winner will be decided by a public vote hosted on the Songkick website which will close on Friday August 3rd.

Longlist nominees for the award are taken from an eclectic mix of genres and artists, including IDLES, Kamasi Washington, Christene & The Queens, Dream Wife, and Bonobo, to name a few.

The winning nominees for the award’s Shortlist will be announced on August 7th and the overall winner of the award will be announced on September 4th at an event taking place at The Brewery in Clerkenwell.

BBC Radio 1’s Mistajam will be returning to host the award and will be joined by Sharon Carpenter, who presents the hugely popular live-streamed mobile quiz show app, HQ.

Sharon said: ‘Music has always played such a massive role in my life, so to have the opportunity to celebrate the best of the best in independent music – it’s just so amazing. Independent music is the backbone of the industry, with its creativity, innovation and courage to break the rules. It’s going to be a fantastic night as we recognise the many accomplishments of these bold artists. I can’t wait!’

Previous winners of the award include Counterfeit (2017), Babymetal (2016), All Time Low (2015), Sophie Ellis Bextor (2014), Enter Shikari (2013), The Prodigy (2012) and Frank Turner (2011).

Established in 1999, AIM is a collective organisation founded to represent the UK’s independent music industry. It represents over 800 different member companies from across the world.

AIM oversees a sector of the music industry whose artists have won 6 out of the last 10 Mercury Music Prizes and regularly accounts for 30% of all UK album awards.
