In session: PINS

PINS are one of those bracing bands that pop up every so often armed and ready to show the world how guitar music should be done. Since 2012 their urgent garage rock has grabbed the blogosphere by the shoulders and given all the fickle-faced indie kids a big slap around the chops. What could beat brisk rock ‘n’ roll delivered by a gang of devil-may-care Manchester mods? Watch them perform the title track from their debut album Girls Like Us.

Manchester fiery four piece PINS make a post punk-esque racket as sharp sounding as their name. Faith, Anna, Lois, Sophie are the girls in the gang who've spent the last 12 months working hard on playing live and honing their ice-cool sound. They’ve released a string of sold-out cassette EPs, opened for US indie darlings Best Coast and Savages and have just confirmed the release of their debut album Girls Like Us on Bella Union for September.

Featured artist: Money

Esoteric Manchester band Money wear their hearts on their sleeve with first album The Shadow of Heaven. It’s an ambitious debut that’s halfway between the euphoria of Wu Lyf and the epic magic of Grizzly Bear or Beach House. Proclaiming that ‘Manchester is paradise’, they use the city as their muse, making music to reflect its ‘transvestites, drunken lovers, drug takers and holy fools’. After two singles for smaller indies, Bella Union has just added the band to its impressive roster.
