Welcome to our latest M playlist. This week to mark the BBC’s Sound of Cinema season we’ve decided to choose our favourite Hollywood soundtracks. It also coincides with a run of interviews we’re featuring over the next few weeks with British film composers including Daniel Pemberton, Jon Hopkins and silent film soundtracker Neil Brand. Our selection includes choice cuts from some of the above as well classic cinematic moments from Inception, Midnight Cowboy, Twin Peaks and Paris, Texas.
Berlin-based British producer James Welch aka Seams has spent the last year buffing up his bleeps and beats, making them dancefloor fit and able. His debut album proper Quarters is out this week and shows just how far his lo-fi electronic productions have developed over the past 18 months. The relocation from sleepy Hampshire to the German capital has given his music an innovative, nocturnal sheen while he’s rapidly becoming an intriguingly heavy live act.
UK rapper and singer Plan B and rock band Everything, Everything (pictured) lead the nominations for this year’s Ivor Novello Awards, the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers revealed this morning. Both are up for two awards each - Plan B is nominated in the PRS for Music Most Performed Work section for She Said and is pitted against Everything Everything in the Album Award category. Everything Everything are also nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically with MY KZ, UR BF.
The artist and producer-led non-profit organisation Women Produce Music (WPM) have announced !N_KoLAB their latest initiative designed to support music makers, audio engineers through collaborative projects.
