Samantha Whates’ fragile folk and homespun alt-pop is centred round introspective reverie and an unusual ear for melody. Watch her perform brand new song Dark Waters on Brighton beach...

Singer-songwriter Samantha Whates creates crystal clear Scandi folk that’d thaw even the coldest of hearts - think snowflakes and mermaids frolicking on the shores of a frozen fjord.

In session: Blue Rose Code part 2

Blue Rose Code, aka Edinburgh born Ross Wilson, has had a big year. His debut album North Ten paved the way back in February, receiving instant cult status via rave reviews from folk behemoths 'Whispering' Bob Harris and Folk Radio. A little while back we invited him to come play a couple of unplugged songs for us. Here you can see the second instalment from that intimate session - a live version of One Day at a Time.

The music of Scottish-born Samantha Whates has as much in common with the leftfield melodies of Scandinavian musicians Olaf Arnalds and Sindri Már Sigfússon as it does the urban folk songs of her London peers. She seamlessly marries tradition with innovation, bringing a timeless quality to her sparse acoustic music. Watch her perform Granny's House at Regent's Park on a sunny afternoon.
