Welcome to our latest playlist, curated by Lemmy Ashton from UK clubbing institution Bugged Out!
For the more discerning raver, Bugged Out! has been a fixture in the diary for more than 20 years, staging early gigs for The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and Green Velvet, releasing compilations by Erol Alkan and Miss Kittin and hosting nights for labels as varied as Border Community, Night Slugs and Mad Decent. As well as the dance tent at Field Day, the club night now has its own annual festival, the Bugged Out! Weekender and are adding Margate’s retro retreat Dreamland to their event armoury.
A staple of the seaside town for many decades, Dreamland is the perfect location for BuggedOut!’s off-kilter musical explorations, which will take place on Saturday 24 September. The likes of US duo, the Martinez Brothers, Ben UFO and Jackmaster will be among the selectors joining Lemmy for this one night seaside rave.
Check out our interview with Lemmy where he gives Iain Bogg from Riotous Rockers some much deserved praise and lets us in on his djing highs … plus he’s put together an ace playlist ranging from disco screamers to bumping tech ‘ouse…
Who or what first inspired you to start DJing?
I started putting parties on with some mates when i was around 16/17 in sports club rooms and places like that and I was the designated indie DJ because I had long hair and played the guitar. That all changed when Justice/Simian Mobile Disco and that kinda stuff filtered down to me in Kent and I started being more of a club DJ.
Who’s your favourite DJ?
Iain Bogg from Riotous Rockers/Dark Circles fame, unquestionably the John Lennon of our time in the DJ’ing world.
What was your first clubbing experience?
It was my fifteenth birthday in Tenerife and I managed to get into a place called Tramps I think. Judge Jules was playing and I’m almost certain I heard a trance remix of Coldplay in there. One of the worst nights ever.
What’s the best party you’ve played in recent times?
Probably the other weekend at Glastonbury. The Beat Hotel is an amazing venue and it’s always great in there. Before that I’d also say the Hydra/Bugged Out NYE party is one that will live long for me.
What does the future have in store?
I’ve started a record label and am releasing my first EP on August 26 this year, available on vinyl and all your favourite digital formats!
