Jacqui Dankworth

The daughter of jazz legends Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, Jacqui Dankworth is considered to be ‘one of the classiest acts in British jazz singing’ (The Guardian). Her highly acclaimed recordings to date have been stylistically diverse, incorporating elements of folk, blues and many other forms that have demonstrated her superb skill as an eclectic songwriter.

On her latest album, It Happens Quietly, Jacqui is accompanied by a who’s who of the jazz scene on a selection of lush, atmospheric orchestral arrangements in collaboration with, and lovingly dedicated to, her father.

She has collaborated and worked with some wonderful artistes such as The Brodsky Quartet and Courtney Pine, David Gordon, Charlie Wood, Anthony Kerr, Liane Carroll, Sara Colman, Tim garland, Chris Allard, Malcolm Edmonstone, The BBC Big Band, RTE, LSO and RPO Orchestras and many other amazing musicians.

Empirical

‘Empirical denotes the gathering of information through means of observation, experience and experiment’

Empirical is a project involving four young British Jazz musicians who aim to expand on the traditions of Jazz. The award-winning group perform compositions and improvisations that express ideas beyond music in a uniquely equal approach. Each member is given equal responsibility for the direction of the music in composition and in the moment of improvisation.

The aim is to present a path for the audience into music by commenting on well known ideas in the world today, taking influence from Film and TV, proverbs and sayings and even sports. Empirical express what we think and feel on this ideas through the collaborative trial and error process of Jazz improvisation.

Empirical have been presenting Projects, performances and recordings since 2007. The eponymous debut Empirical and the 2009 release Out ‘n’ In have been extensively toured throughout the jazz circuit in the UK and abroad. Amongst their many awards, Empirical were named winners of the MOBO Best Jazz Act in 2010.

Anthony Strong

After a scholarship to The Purcell School of Music, Anthony funded his 4 year jazz degree at the Guildhall School of Music by gigging around town and quickly became a regular name on the London scene. He has played on pop sessions for the likes Charlotte Church and Michael Bolton, and has appeared on various BBC, ITV and Channel 4 television shows including Top of The Pops, T4, GMTV and Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. Since the release of his debut album in 2009, Anthony has been winning over audiences with his foot-tapping, feel-good brand of jazz and entertaining live shows. He performs original versions of jazz classics, giving his own take on well-loved songs such as “Cheek To Cheek,” “I Won’t Dance” and “My Foolish Heart,” as well as a few „standards? of his own. His latest EP “Delovely? was released in September 2011, reaching #1 on the Amazon Jazz download charts. Following a sold out London launch concert he toured various cities across the UK with his band of top London musicians. Anthony has performed sell out shows at the London Jazz Festival, Dubai Jazz Festival and Cheltenham Jazz Festival as well as at venues across the UK. He recently performed live as a special guest on BBC Radio 2?s „Friday Night is Music Night? and will be performing live, again on BBC Radio 2, on New Year?s Eve with Paloma Faith and the Guy Barker Orchestra.
