Playlist: Reeperbahn

With the renowned Reeperbahn Festival due to kick off in Hamburg next week, we pick out some of the must-see acts from the bill for this week’s playlist.

For four days in September the international music community meets in the German city for the music conference and showcase performances.

This year’s lineup is as rich as ever, as it readies itself to host the political ire of Algiers, the art rock of hotly tipped Black Country New Road and Skinny Pelembe’s hazy, psychedelic soul.

As a festival partner of PRS Foundation’s Keychange initiative, Reeperbahn showcase a wonderful range of female talent from the bruised bedroom pop of Arlo Parks to Georgia’s off beat electronic pop and Drahla’s inky post-punk.

Elsewhere, electronic punks Sleaford Mods will bring a healthy dose of socially conscious ranting to the festival, while South Korea’s Say Sue Me are sure to charm with glistening surf rock and Portico Quartet represent modern instrumental ambient jazz.

With 600 performances taking place over 90 venues the sheer amount of music can be overwhelming, so we’ve hand picked 15 acts from the lineup not to be missed.

Dig in…

Reeperbahn Festival takes place 18 to 21 September 2019 in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg.
