Songwriter, screen composer and multi-instrumentalist Oly Ralfe has been ensconced in his own celestial soundworld for over 15 years.
As lynchpin to folkloric wayfarers the Ralfe Band, he oversaw the creation of three gloriously madcap electro-acoustic albums at the height of folktronica in the early 2000s.
Drawing on everything from gypsy waltzes to bossa nova, their musical excursions swept from East to West as they plucked every tradition that tickled them.
Since then, Oly’s solo work has been used all over UK television, and he’s penned the score to cult indie film Bunny and the Bull as well as working on Suffragette.
Now he’s turned his hand to a solo piano album, exploring his first musical love and adding his trademark eccentricity to the contemporary classical genre.
Notes From Another Sea – a compendium of 14 glowing piano pieces – lands on Friday (13 April), and to celebrate we’re premiering the video to lead track On My Train…
Notes From Another Sea is released on Ghost Ship Records, via PIAS, on 13 April.
Oly plays at the Holywell Music Room, Oxford, on 20 April.
